Update #1: Introducing, Me

Hello traveller,

Thank you so much for becoming my pen pal. As promised, I will keep you updated throughout the development of our short narrative adventure game, Buru and The Old People!

If you were at PAX Australia last month, you might have noticed a certain dapper looking gentleman roaming the halls… Me!!! Buru.

Since we have become pen pals, allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Bururrgan, and I’m an Australian white ibis. While I would have once described myself as an individual specialising in the covert action of uplifting items which do not necessarily belong to me… these days, I am a retired man of leisure, travelling around, and retelling epic stories of time gone by.

I was most excited to visit my first PAX Australia in October this year, and had a wonderful time meeting lots of new people, rolling dice in the TTRPG hall, and playing the amazing selection of Indigenous made games on show in the Kirrip Wilam room.

You can find out a bit more about the Kirrip Wilam room from our very own Game Director Ben Armstrong, in this ABC Gamer interview.

Now, I imagine you probably want to hear about how the game is coming along!

In the middle of 2025 our team was fortunate to receive funding from both Screen Australia and Screen NSW to begin development. As the keen mathematicians among you may have already figured out, that means we have been working on the game for around 5 months.

This funding has allowed our team to work on a short prototype of Buru and The Old People. We are busy bringing the characters and world of this story to life, and making some wonderful music which I just can’t wait for you to hear!

The team is made up of some incredibly talented individuals based all across Australia:

Creative Director Benjamin Armstrong
Marketing Manager Amy Potter-Jarman
Producer Brooke Collard
2D Artist Letoya Muraru
Environment Artist Emma Sjaan Beukers
Developer Natthan Sharpe
Digital Artist & Cartographer Tessa Rose Morecroft
Composer Alexander Tulett

You’ll hear more about them in future updates I’m sure… However for now, I hope you’ve enjoyed this first letter! Perhaps consider sharing it with a friend. I'm hoping to reach as many pen pals as possible to tell them all about this wonderful game we are making.

You won’t hear from me again until the New Year, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy holiday season, and may your celebrations be filled with joy, connection, and perhaps a dice roll or two!

Yours Sincerely,
Bururrgan
